Born in India, Nikhil lived and worked there for the first twenty-three years of his life before moving over to the UK with a group of fellow PartyGaming employees, who were helping get the London office off the ground. Now heading up Ayima Domains, Nikhil reminds us that, "at the end of the day, everything comes back to the domain name."
At PartyGaming, Nikhil hopped between each branch of the marketing department, working on everything from customer service to online and offline sales, not to mention SEO. Although this meant giving up potential pay rises, he left each team having absorbed their particular expertise. "My aim" he states, "was to understand the whole spectrum of internet marketing."
Whilst part of the SEO team, Nikhil found himself increasingly focussed on PartyGaming's domain portfolio. Eventually, he formed his own department consisting of five employees and an annual revenue of $6 million. Starting up Ayima Domains is a natural extension of Nikhil's work at PartyGaming, both as a pioneer and expert in his field.
Focussing on getting the right domain is vital for any company with a web presence. Nikhil gives this advice to online operators, "Don't step back from a domain owner who wants a lot of money. It pays to shell out that little bit extra at the beginning, because it's an asset that will only grow in value."
In his spare time, Nikhil loves to watch films, read books, play sports, and enjoy fine whisky - Balvenie being a particular favourite. His favourite sporting moment? "It has to be when India won the world cup against Sri Lanka in 2010" he says, with more than a hint of satisfaction.
