Contrary to popular belief, Mike was not an SEO geek as a child. "Growing up, my life was purely music, music, music! Besides, search engines hadn't yet been invented...". It was at his first proper IT job that Mike met Tim Webb. They became good friends and began a collaborative journey into the heart of SEO.
Mike and Tim's first project was WotBox, their own search engine. It was a success until a Google update caused traffic to bomb, teaching them the importance of a long-term, sustainable SEO strategy. WotBox also gave them the company name Ayima. In an effort to find a company name that hadn't been registered as a .com domain, Mike wrote a script that jumbled up the letters of his eldest daughter Mya's name with the classic internet "i".
Ayima is built on the experience and technical abilities of the consulting team. "We absolutely have the best pool of talent in the UK. Obviously there are other fantastic SEOs around, but I don't think any other agency in either the US or UK has a combined team of this quality level." Mike puts this down to Ayima's unique working environment, "We'd all had jobs where we didn't feel appreciated and which limited both freedom and flexibility. We wanted Ayima to be different."
Mike's main interest is music and he currently plays in a band, "Lost Twenty". He grew up listening to the alternative brigade of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins and that influence is very much present in his current band's sound. The band are about to release their debut album which Mike has produced himself.
